Altamont, IL (August 18, 2020) – An elderly Effingham resident suffered injuries following a single-vehicle car accident in Altamont on Thursday, August 13. The crash reportedly took place along the Altamont blacktop near Moccasin Road early that morning at around 10 a.m.
At this time, the cause of the crash is still unknown. According to reports from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, 89-year-old Ruth Schnake of Effingham was traveling southbound on the roadway at the time of the accident. For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway, causing Schnake to lose control of the car.
The vehicle ultimately re-entered the road and struck a ditch before overturning, and the vehicle reportedly came to a rest on its side. A passenger in the vehicle, identified as 89-year-old Raymond Schnake, sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois for treatment.
Ruth Schnake was cited for not having a valid driver’s license and driving in the wrong lane. At this time, no further updates on the crash have been provided. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is currently in progress.
Our thoughts are with Raymond Schnake and his family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Rollover Accidents in Illinois
Rollover collisions are some of the most dangerous types of accidents due to their increased fatality rates. Being involved in a rollover accident can be traumatic, and vehicle occupants are at risk of suffering life-threatening injuries. Of the nearly 9.1 million collisions involving passenger cars, trucks, and vans in 2010, only around 2.1% of collisions involved rollover crashes. However, rollovers were involved in nearly 35% of fatal passenger-vehicle crashes reported that year. Of those killed, nearly 69% were unrestrained at the time of the accident.
Car crash victims often find themselves struggling to learn their rights in time to protect them after an accident. Luckily, you do not have to pursue a personal injury claim on your own. An experienced Illinois personal injury attorney can help you pursue a claim and recover compensation for damages, including medical expenses, lost income, and other losses.
