Warrensburg, IL (July 1, 2020) – Two drivers were hospitalized following a crash in Warrensburg on Tuesday, June 30. The collision occurred at around 12:29 p.m. near the intersection of IL-121 and Kenney Road. Initial reports revealed that the driver of a 2016 Hyundai failed to yield at the intersection and collided with a 2019 Freightliner truck tractor-semitrailer.

The semitrailer left the roadway and overturned. The driver of the Hyundai was later identified as Elecia Southern, 20, of Normal, Illinois. Both her and the truck-driver, Dean Henderson, 54, of Tolono, Illinois, were injured in the accident.

An ongoing investigation into the crash is underway.

Our thoughts are with Dean Henderson, Elecia Southern, and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Illinois Semi-Truck Crashes

There were over 11,000 trucking accidents reported in Illinois in 2017. These crashes accounted for roughly 3.5% of traffic accidents that year. In these crashes, 1,818 people were injured in semi-truck collisions.

These large vehicles can cause devastating injuries in the event of a semi-truck crash in Illinois . Driver inexperience is a leading cause of deadly Illinois commercial vehicle accidents as companies are trying to fill positions with a shortage of drivers. When the negligence of another party causes a crash, injured victims should consult with an Illinois trucking injury lawyer.
