Illinois Fatal Bicycle Accidents

Peoria, IL - UPDATE: Mark Stahl Killed in Bike Crash on Forest Hill Ave

Cyclists are much more vulnerable to suffering life-threatening injuries in the event of a crash involving a motor vehicle. There were a reported 720 cyclists killed in collisions across the country 2014. Of those killed, 27 were in Illinois, with six taking place in Chicago. Illinois is a state where cycling is very popular, and statistics have found that the state is the fifth most dangerous in the country for bicycle accidents. More than 50,000 people are injured in bicycle accidents each year across the country.

The grief and devastation of losing a loved one due to another’s negligence are nearly unbearable. Surviving family members often take on damages resulting from the accident, and they may be able to recover lost compensation by pursuing a wrongful death claim with the help of an experienced Illinois bicycle crash attorney. In an Illinois wrongful death claim, a representative of the decedent’s estate — usually a close family member — seeks damages from those at fault for the person’s death to obtain compensation for damages.
