Oregon, IL (July 13, 2020) – Two people were injured after being ejected from a motorcycle in Oregon on Sunday, July 12. The collision occurred at the 3000 block of IL-2 that afternoon at around 1 p.m. The crash reportedly took place when a Dodge pickup truck driven by Troy Mowry, 43, of Chana, Illinois was attempting to turn into a parking lot.

At the same time, Mark Lampert, 64, of Batavia, Illinois was traveling northbound on the highway when he was struck head-on by the Dodge. Both Lampert and his passenger, Candace Benton, 44, of Batavia, were ejected from the bike. Lampert was airflighted to a hospital with serious injuries, and Benton was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Mowry was cited for making an improper left turn. An ongoing investigation into the crash is in progress.

Our thoughts are with Mark Lampert, Candace Benton, and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Illinois Motorcycle Collisions

Motorcycle fatalities in the United States reached historic lows in 1997, with 2,116 reported deaths. In 2017, motorcycle fatalities had increased to a total of 5,337 deaths. There were 3,756 reported motorcycle accidents in Illinois in 2011, resulting in 145 deaths and accounting for 15.8% of roadway fatalities. Another 3,020 motorcyclists were injured in collisions across the state that year.

Even though motorcyclists are also misrepresented as careless and reckless, statistics show that motor vehicle drivers are more likely to cause serious motorcycle accidents. These cases involve extensive investigation in order to determine who is at fault for the crash, meaning that an experienced legal team is often necessary to construct a strong case. Injured parties should reach out to a qualified Illinois motorcycle crash attorney to discuss their legal options before pursuing an Illinois personal injury claim for lost damages.
