Mattoon, IL – John Bolinger Injured in Crash at Charleston Ave & 15th St

Mattoon, IL (July 24, 2020) – A driver was hospitalized following a collision near Mattoon. The accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, July 22, and initial reports revealed that the crash involved two vehicles. Officials from the Mattoon Police Department arrived at the scene of the crash at around 3:28 p.m., and emergency response units were also present at the crash site.

According to reports from local authorities, John F. Bolinger of Shelbyville, Illinois was traveling west on Charleston Avenue at the time of the crash. Bolinger’s vehicle collided with the rear of a sport-utility-vehicle driven by Michele L. Smock of Charleston, Illinois. Smock’s vehicle was reportedly stopped at the intersection of South 15th Street. 

Smock reportedly approached Bolinger’s vehicle after the crash and claimed that he seemed to be having a medical emergency. Bolinger was transported by Mitchell-Jerdan Ambulance Service to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center for treatment after the accident. No other injuries were reported. 

No further updates on the collision are available at this time. An ongoing investigation into the accident is currently underway and being conducted by local law enforcement officials.
