Kankakee Co, IL (July 11, 2020) – Two people were injured following a collision in Kankakee County on Wednesday, July 8. The crash occurred at around 6:45 p.m. on I-57 near mile marker 318, according to reports from the Illinois State Police (ISP). Initial reports revealed that the collision involved a 2006 Jeep driven by a 36-year-old male and a 2019 Freightliner Truck Tractor-Trailer operated by a 51-year-old man.

Both the Jeep and semi-truck were traveling southbound on the highway at the time of the crash. The Jeep veered left and exited the roadway before overturning. The semi-truck was traveling behind the vehicle and veered right to avoid it. The 18-wheeler also left the roadway and overturned.

The driver of the Jeep was cited for driving too fast for roadway conditions. An ongoing investigation into the crash is underway.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Of the 9.1 million passenger-vehicle, sport-utility-vehicle, pickup, and van crashes reported in 2010, only 2.1% were rollover crashes. However, that same year, rollovers accounted for 35% of roadway fatalities. A total of 7,600 people were killed in rollover crashes that year.
