Chicago, IL (July 22, 2020) – A man from Markham, Illinois suffered serious injuries after being involved in a crash with a semi-truck in the Chicago area. The accident reportedly occurred early on Monday morning, July 20. Local reports revealed that the collision occurred at around 9:30 a.m. Emergency responders and local law enforcement officials were called to the site of the accident on Interstate 94 (I-80).

The injured victim was identified as 26-year-old Dominique Bernard Ellis. Ellis was reportedly traveling eastbound on the highway at the time of the accident. Near the exit for Calamut Avenue, his vehicle swerved to the right to avoid stopped traffic ahead and collided with the rear of a commercial vehicle.

The force of the impact caused the 18-wheeler to rock side-to-side. The black Nissan driven by Ellis was crushed underneath. The Hammond Fire Department responded to the crash to extract Ellis from the vehicle.

The highway was shut down to a medical flight helicopter to land on the roadway, and Ellis was then transported to the University of Chicago. No further updates on the accident are available at this time.

Local law enforcement officials are currently investigating the cause of the accident.

Our thoughts are with Dominique Bernard Ellis and his family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.

Semi-Truck Accidents in Chicago

Chicago, IL - Dominique Ellis Injured in Semi Crash on I-94

Commercial trucks play a vital role in the transportation of goods all across the country. When involved in a crash, these large vehicles can inflict completely devastating injuries due to the size and speed of these vehicles on the highway. Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed that there were 433,000 crashes involving semi-trucks reported across the United States in 2015.

In 2014, a reported 19,000 crashes in Illinois involved large trucks, and these collisions accounted for an estimated 13% of traffic fatalities in the state that year. Victims involved in a crash with an 18-wheeler are at risk of sustaining severe injuries and other damages.

Large semi-trucks can cause catastrophic injuries in the event of a collision with a passenger vehicle. Truck-driver inexperience is a leading cause of deadly commercial vehicle accidents as companies are trying to fill positions due to a shortage of drivers, and this negligence contributes to serious crashes involving 18-wheelers and commercial vehicles. When the negligence of another driver results in a crash, injured victims should consult with an Illinois trucking injury lawyer in order to recover lost compensation by pursuing a personal injury claim.
