The site of the crash was reportedly located on the Dan Ryan Expressway (Interstate 90). The deceased victim was later identified as 26-year-old Deon Johnson.

According to reports from the Illinois State Police, Johnson was traveling southbound on a Suzuki GSX600 at the time of the accident. It was revealed that at around 8:05 p.m. a Toyota Avalon traveling ahead of him stopped suddenly due to a broken-down vehicle located near 56th Street.

Johnson’s motorcycle collided with the rear of the Toyota, ejecting the rider from the bike. He was transported to a nearby medical facility for the treatment of critical injuries and was later pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported in the collision.

At this time, no further details on the crash have been made public. An ongoing investigation into the accident is being conducted by local law enforcement officials. More details will be reported as the investigation progresses.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of Deon Johnson at this time.

Motorcyclists lack the same level of protection provided to those riding in passenger cars. For that reason, motorcycle riders are much more likely to be severely injured in the event of a collision. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that motorcyclists were 27 times more likely to be killed in a crash. In fact, in 2010, the fatality rate of motorcyclists was six times that of traffic deaths involving passenger cars. There were 145 motorcyclists killed in Illinois motorcycle crashes in 2011, and thousands more were seriously injured that year across the state.
