Benton, IL – Joshua Simms, Others Injured in Crash on IL-14

Benton, IL (July 11, 2020) – A collision involving a van and a tractor-trailer left three people hospitalized in Benton on Friday, July 10. The accident occurred on IL-14 near McLeansboro Street at around 11 a.m. Initial reports revealed that Joshua Simms, 36, of Christopher, Illinois was driving a Dodge minivan north on McLeansboro Street when he ran a stop sign and crashed into a semi-truck.

The impact caused the tractor-trailer to leave the roadway. According to local reports, the semi-truck proceeded to hit two pedestrians, two buildings, a parked car, and a trailer. Both pedestrians were hospitalized, one of whom was identified as Larry Lampley, 60, of Whittington, Illinois.

Simms fled the scene but was later found by Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies. He was also hospitalized.

An ongoing investigation into the crash is underway.
