Cahokia, IL – Officer Kevin Smith Injured in Crash on I-255

Cahokia, IL (June 21, 2020) – A Dupo police chief and another officer were injured following a crash in Cahokia on Friday afternoon, June 19th. The collision reportedly occurred on I-255 near IL-157 at around 6 p.m. Police chief Keven Smith and a fellow officer were traveling in an unmarked pickup truck when the vehicle attempted to cut across a grassy area.

The vehicle struck an unseen hole or ditch. Local reports indicated that Smith and the other officer were involved in a pursuit, but the details of the pursuit are not clear at this time. One of the officers involved was airlifted to a hospital in the St. Louis area.

An ongoing investigation into the crash is underway.
