Jasper Co, IL (February 23, 2020) – On Saturday night, February 22nd, local authorities in Jasper County, Illinois reported that two people were injured after their vehicle ran off the road. Initial reports revealed that Hailey M. Cook, 18, of Matoon, Illinois was traveling on Jasper County Road 800E near 1600N at the time of the accident. Cook was unfamiliar with the area and failed to navigate the curve on the roadway, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway.
Both Cook and her passenger, Peyton M. Wills, 18 of Newton, Illinois, were injured in the crash. An ambulance transported Cook to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois. Another ambulance took Wills to Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, Illinois.
No other details have been made public at this time. An ongoing investigation into the crash is in progress.
Our thoughts are with Hailey M. Cook, Peyton M. Wills, and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Illinois Run-Off-Road Collisions
A run-off-road accident happens when the vehicle leaves the roadway. These accidents are the most common single-vehicle crashes and often result in severe or life-threatening injuries. Vehicles often roll over when leaving the roadway, resulting in even more devastating injuries.
Nearly 70 percent of fatal single-vehicle crashes involve running off the road. This makes ROR crashes the leading kind of fatal accident involving just one vehicle. In some cases, injured parties can recover lost compensation with the help of an Illinois car accident lawyer.
