Illinois drivers might not expect to be in a car accident, but there are times when they are unavoidable. With that, there is the fundamental necessity to stop and check that the others involved in the crash are uninjured. If they are indeed hurt, the person is supposed to call for help, wait at the scene, exchange information and follow the law. Unfortunately, there are times when an automobile accident occurs and one of the drivers decides to flee the scene making it a hit-and-run. Whether there are injuries or it was a fatal car accident, those who were involved need to know what to do in such a circumstance.

A car crash that happened shortly before 8 p.m. injured a 97-year-old woman. According to law enforcement, a vehicle that might have been a white pickup, drove into the opposite lane and hit a 2007 Chevy Cobalt that was being driven by a 48-year-old man. After this head-on crash, the Cobalt was forced back and hit a parked 2009 Honda Accord. The injured woman was a passenger in the Cobalt. She had multiple broken bones and was hospitalized. The driver and a 73-year-old woman who was also a passenger in the back seat were taken to the hospital, received treatment and were released. The investigation to find the vehicle that departed the scene is ongoing.

A car accident can change lives in an instant. There can be a long hospital stay, the need to have rehabilitative care, surgeries and perhaps the inability to return to a normal life. Such a situation will place a personal and financial hardship on a family as they have to come to grips with medical expenses and caring for someone who needs assistance all day, every day. If there is a fatality, it opens up a host of other issues such as making ends meet and dealing with the emotional fallout of an unexpected death. Those who are affected by this need to keep their wits about them and make sure they protect themselves by considering litigation.

In this accident, a vehicle had a head-on crash with another vehicle leading to serious injuries to a 97-year-old woman. With the driver deciding to depart from the scene of the crash, it adds another layer to the litany of issues that have to be dealt with in the crash’s aftermath. With that in mind, the family needs to make sure it has someone on their side to deal with all the factors that will arise. For that, an attorney can provide help and guidance.
