Authorities say truck started multi-vehicle Illinois crash

| Jun 25, 2014 | Uncategorized

An accident on Illinois Interstate 39 resulted in multiple injuries and one fatality. The incident was the second one in a five-mile radius on I-39. The accident claimed the life of a 74-year-old male from Pecatonica. His wife, age 71, was driving the sports utility vehicle that was struck from behind by a semi-truck.

The Monroe Center Fire Department removed her from the vehicle, and she was taken by Lifeline Helicopter to St. Anthony’s Medical Center. Her husband was declared dead at the site of the accident.

Illinois State Police fined the truck driver, 55, for failure to reduce speed in an approaching construction zone, thereby causing a chain reaction and multi-vehicle pile-up. Authorities say the semi-truck was at the 112 mile marker when it forcibly rear-ended the vehicle of the deceased man. The impact caused the SUV to enter a ditch.

The driver of the truck also allegedly injured a 47-year-old man from Minnesota. The semi-truck then smashed into a passenger vehicle of a 64-year-old Downers Grove woman. Her car was propelled onto a shoulder. A fourth vehicle driven by a 71-year-old man from Florida was also struck. Some of the passengers in his car were taken to the hospital.

If you have been in a car accident in Illinois, you need to have a formidable ally who will work hard for you and your best interests. If a loved one has been a victim of a fatal crash, or has suffered critical injuries, it is a good idea to confer with an experienced legal professional who can advocate for you at a critical time of your life.
