Man killed in fatal drunk driving accident

When there is a car crash in Cook County with injuries and fatalities, one of the first steps that investigators will take is to try to determine how the accident happened. In some instances, an automobile accident occurs due to circumstances beyond the control of the drivers. In others, however, there was a driver who got behind the wheel after drinking or using drugs. When there is a fatal drunk driving accident, the family who lost a loved one will want answers that could help them with a legal case.

This may be the case after a recent crash between two vehicles led to one man's death and a woman's arrest. According to law enforcement, the woman was driving east at around 11:45 p.m. when she ran through a stop sign and hit another vehicle that was heading south. The second vehicle then hit two poles. The man driving the second vehicle, 28, was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead about an hour after the accident. After the crash, the woman's vehicle kept going south and hit two parked vehicles. She was taken to the hospital and was said to be in stable condition. Subsequently, she was arrested for reckless homicide with a motor vehicle, DUI, failing to adhere to a stop sign, disobeying a traffic sign, failing to reduce speed, and failing to stay in her lane.

The initial shock over the loss of a loved one and the funeral expenses involved can be devastating for surviving family members. The family of the fatal car accident victim has to accept the reality that their loved one will never return home. There will be financial and emotional issues that have to be assessed, too. In many cases, these surviving family members are able to make ends meet without the compensation that may be recovered via wrongful death lawsuit.

Considering the circumstances of this incident and that the woman faces a slew of charges related to her apparent drunkenness, the man's family needs to make sure they explore all their options and protect themselves. Oftentimes, help from a qualified legal professional experienced in these types of cases can prove beneficial.
