Cook Co, IL – Keith Mereck Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on I-294

Cook Co, IL (April 12, 2020) – A crash that took place in Cook County, Illinois early Sunday morning left two people injured. Officials from the Illinois State Police responded to the scene of the crash on I-294 NB at around 3:03 a.m. According to initial reports, Keith Mereck, 66, of Valley City, Ohio was struck by a wrong-way driver on the highway.

The wrong-way driver was identified as Jermaine Leverston, 44, of Joliet, Illinois. Leverston was traveling south on the northbound lanes of I-294 and collided head-on with Mereck’s vehicle. Both were hospitalized following the accident.

The investigation into the crash is currently ongoing.
