DeKalb, IL (February 13, 2020) – A 20-year-old DeKalb woman was killed in a fatal collision on Wednesday night, February 12th. Kate M. Miller was traveling on IL-38 when she lost control of her vehicle due to slippery roadway conditions near Malta Road. This caused her silver Chevrolet Sedan to cross the centerline of the roadway and collide head-on with a red Dodge pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup, Sergio Vargas, 32, of Dixon, Illinois, was unable to avoid the collision. Miller was transported to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Vargas was treated at the scene by responding paramedics.

An ongoing investigation into the crash is currently underway.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Kate M. Miller at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family in hopes of a full recovery.

Head-On Crashes in Illinois

Few types of crashes are as severe as head-on collisions. These accidents often happen when a driver veers into oncoming traffic. This can happen due to many reasons, and inclement roadway conditions can make these types of accidents much more likely.

Sadly, many people are killed in head-on collisions. 10 percent of all fatal crashes reported each year involve head-on impacts. In some cases, injured parties can recover lost compensation with the help of an Illinois car crash attorney.
