Altamont, IL – 1 Killed, 2 Injured in Crash on N 650th St

Altamont, IL (February 17, 2020) – One driver was killed and two other people injured following a head-on collision in Altamont, Illinois on Saturday, February 15th. The crash occurred on North 650th Street (Dexter Road) south of US-40 at around 10:15 a.m. According to officers from the scene, an SUV driven by Ronald J. Hite, 62, of Mason Illinois veered into the southbound lanes on N. 650th Street and collided with a pickup truck. 

The driver of the pickup, Chauncy Kuhns, 34, of Altamont, was transported to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois following the crash. Hite was killed in the crash. A passenger in Hite’s vehicle was taken to HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois for treatment.

No citations have been filed at this time. An ongoing investigation into the crash is in progress.
