Monticello, IL (January 13, 2020) – A crash on Saturday, January 11th, south of Monticello, Illinois, killed one woman and left another man seriously injured. The accident occurred near the intersection of IL-105 and E. 1350 North Road at around 2:01 p.m. Initial reports revealed that Conrad Gillespie, 22, of Bement, Illinois was driving a 2008 Honda Accord on IL-105 NB when he entered the southbound lanes to pass a 2016 Ford Fiesta driven by Arthur Anderson, 51, of Bement.
While attempting to pass the other vehicle, Gillespie collided head-on with a 2012 Nissan Sentra driven by woman, 56, of Bement. The impact caused the Sentra to collide with Anderson’s vehicle. The woman driving the Sentra was pronounced dead at the scene, while Gillespie was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of sustained injuries. Anderson was also injured in the crash.
Gillespie was cited for improper passing, improper lane usage, and possession of recreational cannabis. An investigation into the incident is currently in progress.
