Edgewood, IL - Transportation Worker Hit By Car On I-57

Edgewood, IL (January 20, 2020) - A worker for the Illinois Department of Transportation was injured after being struck by an oncoming vehicle on Friday, January 17th, near Edgewood, Illinois. The accident occurred on Interstate-57 near mile marker 144 at around 6:36 p.m. The worker was struck while placing warning flares on the roadway to alert drivers of a crash on the interstate.

Initial reports revealed that a 2010 Ford driven by Joseph Grauenke, 64, of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin hit the worker. Grauenke reportedly hit a slick part of the roadway and lost control of the vehicle.

Grauenke was cited for failure to reduce speed and avoid a collision. An investigation into the accident is currently underway.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.

Thumbnail image for lawfirmimages-103.jpgWhen a pedestrian is hit by an oncoming vehicle, it can cause life-threatening injuries, even at low speeds. When these accidents happen at high-speeds, pedestrian victims often suffer catastrophic injuries. That's why the side of the highway can be a dangerous place.

There were 4,930 reported pedestrian accidents in Illinois in 2010. 4,665 pedestrians were injured in collisions that year. Injured victims should consult with an Illinois pedestrian injury lawyer to discuss their legal options.
