Edgewood, IL – Transportation Worker Hit By Car On I-57

Edgewood, IL (January 20, 2020) – A worker for the Illinois Department of Transportation was injured after being struck by an oncoming vehicle on Friday, January 17th, near Edgewood, Illinois. The accident occurred on Interstate-57 near mile marker 144 at around 6:36 p.m. The worker was struck while placing warning flares on the roadway to alert drivers of a crash on the interstate.

Initial reports revealed that a 2010 Ford driven by Joseph Grauenke, 64, of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin hit the worker. Grauenke reportedly hit a slick part of the roadway and lost control of the vehicle.

Grauenke was cited for failure to reduce speed and avoid a collision. An investigation into the accident is currently underway.
