Many Cook County residents understand the importance of safe driving. Paying attention to their surroundings and not engaging in distracted driving are what most drivers do when they’re out and about on our area roads. But, occasionally a serious car accident occurs because of another person’s negligence.

A man was recently killed in the Northwest Side by a hit-and-run driver. The man was driving on North Oak Park Avenue when another driver went through a red light on Addison Street and hit his car. The victim was taken to Lutheran General Hospital and died a few days later. The driver who hit him left the scene by foot and no arrests have been made yet. Police are still investigating the crash.

Unfortunately, many people are injured or killed in accidents due to no fault of their own. When a family is placed in this situation, they often face unexpected expenses. Not only medical expenses, but they may now be missing the wages that the victim would have earned. A legal professional skilled in personal injury can help a family learn what happened to cause the accident and determine who was at fault. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering and other damages.

A serious car accident can turn a family’s life upside down. Many times, a car accident victim needs extensive medical care. A victim may not be able to work for a long period of time. The victim of a car accident has the legal right to hold the negligent party responsible for their mistake, so that they don’t harm anyone else.
