Survivor benefits for child after parent dies in work accident

After a sudden and tragic accident, family members often face their worst fear with the passing of a loved one.

There are many ways in which a person can be the victim of a tragic fatal accident. However, one that many sometimes do not think about is the possibility of being fatally injured at work.

Certain industries in particular have higher rates per capita of work accident deaths. In these environments, there are often many safety precautions required by employer and also by employees who work in them. These environments, such as a construction site can still lead to a death due to construction negligence, as can any work environment in which a person drives for a living, operates heavy machinery or works in a factory.

These are just a few industries in which work deaths are more common, but anyone can be the victim of a work accident no matter their career.

Survivor benefits are benefits paid by the Social Security Administration after a loved one passes away. They are arguably more important for children who have lost a loved one, and thus have also lost financial stability. Families may be eligible to receive survivor benefits if the loved one who passed away worked, paid Social Security taxes and earned enough work credits.

Survivor benefits are not the only benefit that could potentially be paid to a child when a parent passes away. Sometimes negligence related to the person’s death is a concern as is it could mean liability on other parties who may have had a role in that person’s death.
