Woman standing in car wash killed in automobile accident

It is an unfortunate reality that there can be a fatal car crash at any time in Cook County, throughout Illinois and across the U.S. Many of these accidents occur between a vehicle and a fatal car accident victim who is a pedestrian or otherwise unprotected by a vehicle. For the family left behind, the loss of a loved one can be difficult to reconcile. The automobile accident must be fully investigated to determine its cause and gather evidence to consider moving forward with a legal filing.

Recently, a woman died after being hit by a car while she was in a car wash. The accident occurred at around 9:50 a.m. when a Volkswagen Golf driven by a 56-year-old man ran through the overhead door of the establishment while it was closed. The woman, age 28, was hit by the garage door, and by the Volkswagen, and pinned under the door. Emergency services were called and the fire department got the woman out from under the vehicle. She was transported to the hospital where she was declared dead. The woman had worked as a mail carrier.

When there is an accident between a vehicle and a pedestrian, the pedestrian will likely have injuries that will at least require some form of medical treatment. If the person is fortunate, the injuries will not be severe. In some cases, however, there will be the need for a hospital stay, surgical procedures, rehabilitative care and perhaps more. With a fatality, the family will need to confront the loss of a loved one and the ancillary issues that go along with that. There could be the lost wages of a family’s primary earner, a parent who will no longer be there to care for the children, and more.

In this accident, the woman was in a car wash where she should have been completely safe from being hit by a car. However, she was hit and killed. As her family comes to grips with her death, they must also make sure that there be a full investigation to gather evidence for a legal filing. To make certain they understand all their legal options, they should consult with an experienced attorney.
