If you or a loved one has been seriously injured in an accident, it is important that you begin looking out for your best interests.

Car accident kills two in Cook County after alleged hit-and-run

Accidents are often unavoidable in Cook County. With any automobile accident, there is a chance that severe injuries and even fatalities will result. Regardless of the reason it happened, those who were involved will have a great deal to consider afterward. There can be medical costs and the need to come to grips with the loss of a loved one. When the accident happens as another driver is breaking the law, it can be even more difficult to deal with.

A minor accident in which the driver of one of the vehicles allegedly committed a hit-and-run sparked a second crash and resulted in two fatalities. The accident happened shortly after 7 p.m. The 19-year-old male driver of a blue 2009 Honda Civic was reportedly leaving the scene of the first incident in which his vehicle clipped a 2011 Scion, police said. The driver fled at what witnesses said was a high rate of speed. Police said the driver of the Civic subsequently crashed into a 2006 Mitsubishi Gallant that was turning left in front of the Honda. The 39-year-old woman driving the Mitsubishi and the man driving the Honda were both killed. The 23-year-old female passenger in the Honda was hospitalized in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing.

No one ever thinks a fatal car accident will affect them. It could be a breadwinner in the household who dies, a parent, a sibling, a young person just beginning his or her life, or anyone else. The costs accompanying a fatal crash are often underestimated, and those who are dealing with it might accept a settlement from the insurance company without realizing the short and long-term costs they will face. Whether the accident occurred due to bad luck or because of another’s recklessness, it is imperative to have a full accounting of what happened to pursue compensation.

In this crash, a young man was involved in a minor fender bender and apparently chose to leave the scene rather than deal with it. In the course of making his getaway, he was involved in another, more serious accident that led to his own death, the death of another, and severe injuries to his passenger. Given the emerging details of this crash, those in a similar position as the family of the woman who was killed can get the assistance of a legal professional to understand their legal options.
