Too many people in Illinois and across the United States who meet an untimely death will do so in a fatal car accident. Some of these are due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control. But others are because of negligence on the part of one of the drivers. Regardless of how the automobile accident came about, there are many issues that must be taken into consideration in its aftermath. These include medical and funeral expenses and the family that has suffered the loss of a loved one moving on without the person who was killed.
A recent car crash in Chicago led to the death of a 23-year-old woman and injuries to an 18-year-old man and a 5-year-old boy who were in a Honda Civic. The other driver fled the scene making it a hit-and-run. The accident occurred shortly after midnight when a Ford Mustang was driving at a high rate of speed and hit the Civic. Following the accident, the Mustang also hit two parked vehicles. All three people in the Civic were taken to the hospital, where the woman died. Police are looking for the driver of the Mustang.
When there is a serious car accident, those who were affected by it must be cognizant of the issues that will inevitably accompany such an incident. With injuries, there will be medical costs for treatment and the possibility that a person’s entire life will be affected in the short-term and the long-term. Perhaps the injured person will need to be cared for and helped in doing basic tasks. This can put a personal and financial strain on the family. If there was a death, the person who died might have been an integral part of the household. Insurance companies might sound friendly, but their main focus is the bottom line. Accepting a settlement offer right after a crash is often a mistake, as it will rarely cover all the costs that can accumulate.
This accident claimed the life of a young woman and injured a young man and a small boy. To make matters worse, it was a hit-and-run. As the investigation proceeds, the family of those who were hurt and killed should protect their legal rights by discussing the matter with an experienced attorney to consider a lawsuit.
