Car crash with alleged drag racers claims life of Illinois man

When a family in Illinois is confronted with the loss of a loved one in a car accident, there are numerous issues that will arise. The automobile accident alone is a significant enough trauma even if there is not a fatality. When it includes the loss of a loved one, however, it is much worse. What can create even greater anger and sadness is if the accident occurs due to the reckless behaviors of another person. When this happens, those who are affected need to have an understanding of how to have a full investigation conducted to consider a legal filing for compensation.

An early morning accident in the Chicagoland area on December 7 killed one man and injured his daughter. The 49-year-old man died when his 2004 Toyota Highlander was hit as he attempted to make a right turn after stopping at a stop sign. His vehicle was hit by a 2011 Dodge Charger that law enforcement says was speeding. According to the investigation, it is believed that 16-year-old driving the Charger was drag racing with a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by a 20-year-old. The deceased man’s 15-year-old daughter was also in the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. There are charges pending against the alleged drag racers.

Car accidents are very common. In many of these, there will be severe injuries and even fatalities. While the majority of drivers are cautious and cognizant of other drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians, there are always certain drivers who behave negligently or recklessly or who are not experienced. This can cause accidents. With injuries, a family might have a loved one who is no longer able to function independently and cannot work. This can result in a financial and personal strain as well as making it necessary for the person to need long hospitalization and extensive rehabilitation. If there is a fatality, there will be funeral expenses and the emotional upheaval of an untimely, unnecessary death as well as financial ramifications.

Drag racing is a deadly activity and it showed as a 49-year-old father was killed with his daughter seriously injured. A family in similar circumstances needs to understand how to pursue compensation with help from a qualified and experienced legal professional.
